Biography

Jose Higueras is a professional horn player and alphorn soloist whose international career has taken him to symphony orchestras, opera houses, and artistic projects across Europe and Asia. He has performed in a wide range of orchestral and stage settings, including serving as Principal Horn of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and as a member of the Sofia National Opera & Ballet from 2020 to 2025, combining his performing career with teaching and the development of his own artistic projects.

In recent years, he has devoted a significant part of his work to establishing the alphorn as a solo concert instrument, developing concert programmes, collaborations, and artistic projects that seek to expand its presence on contemporary stages.

Alongside his performing career, he is also involved in lectures, lecture-recitals, and educational projects for conservatoires, universities, museums, orchestras, and cultural institutions, tailoring each format to its specific context and audience.

His artistic approach places the alphorn within a contemporary framework, bringing together tradition, soundscape, and present-day creation. Through a rigorous and deeply personal perspective, he develops projects that present the instrument as a living, expressive stage voice, fully integrated into the professional world of classical music.
