After five intense years as Principal Horn of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Sofia National Opera, with performances in Italy and on stages in China, Kuwait, Switzerland, Vienna, Berlin, and elsewhere, the time has come to open a new chapter.
During one of my programmes in Sofia, I had the opportunity to perform alongside an alphorn soloist. That encounter awakened in me the desire to explore an instrument that, from the very first moment, felt deeply familiar through its sound, its expressive power, and its connection to landscape, memory, and natural resonance.
Since January 2025, I have devoted a central part of my artistic work to developing this project: studying the repertoire, exploring the possibilities of the alphorn, and deepening my understanding of its history, technique, and ability to engage with the contemporary stage. What began as a fascination has gradually become a distinct artistic path of my own.
Roots of a vision
Having grown up close to the mountains, the sound of open spaces has long been part of my inner world. Throughout my training and professional life abroad, that connection never disappeared. In echo, distance, and resonance, I kept finding a way back to something essential.
My interest in the alphorn goes back to 2004, when I first encountered it at the International Horn Symposium in Valencia. Years later, after an extensive orchestral career, that memory has returned with renewed force, leading me to shape this project from a more mature, conscious, and deeply personal perspective.
From the mountain peaks to the contemporary stage
This project is born from a necessary balance: the silence and breath of the mountains meeting the focused listening of the concert hall. For me, the alphorn is neither a folkloric curiosity nor a museum piece, but a living and powerful voice that connects the ancestral with contemporary creation.
Although the alphorn has appeared only occasionally on stages in Spain, my aim is to give it a stable and meaningful presence within the concert world, sharing its resonance in contemporary contexts and revealing its potential as an artistic voice capable of moving audiences in any setting.
Through this project, I seek to open a path of my own: to build bridges between tradition and contemporaneity, between landscape and stage, between sonic memory and present musical experience.
Inspired by my experiences in Switzerland, by that encounter with the alphorn soloist in Sofia, and by the artistic maturity gained through years of experience, this is the most intimate and challenging journey I have undertaken.
I invite you to join me and discover how the silence of the mountains sounds in the heart of the city.
